Fun Food Activities to Do with Kids: Milk Kaleidoscope

Who says science isn’t fun?! This simple experiment involves only five ingredients and will leave your kids in awe.

What you need:

  • Whole milk
  • A small dish or platter
  • Cotton swabs
  • Dish soap
  • Food coloring

Start by pouring the whole milk into the dish. You only need enough to cover the bottom.

Next, add a few drops of food coloring to the milk. You can put as few or as many as you like, randomly scattered or in a pattern – let your imagination run wild!

Place a drop of dish soap onto the cotton swab and gently place the soapy end into the middle of the milk platter. Hold it there for 10-15 seconds, watching the colors burst!

This experiment will work better if you gently place the cotton swab into the milk rather than swirl it. Your little ones will watch in amazement as the colors mix around the milk, creating a kaleidoscope effect.
