Lobster Roll Recipes the New England Way

What would a summer be in New England if we didn't have Lobster Rolls? They are just that important part of the New England summer feast tradition!

We're here to present you the 2 big Lobster Roll Recipes - Maine and Connecticut. Just a 2-3 hour difference and the recipes are very different!

 

Maine Lobster Rolls

Maine Lobster Roll

Traditionally Made with cold, big chunks of lobster meat tossed with mayo on a toasted center-cut hot dog roll. 

Ingredients:

  • 2 lb. steamed lobster meat
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 Tbsp fresh chopped dill
  • 1 Tbsp fresh chopped parsley
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 10 New England style hot dog rolls
  • 5 Tbsp butter, softened

Directions:

  1. Drain the steamed lobster meat of any extra liquid. If using lobster tails, cut into bite-size chunks. Put them all in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Prepare the fresh herbs by chopping them.
  3. Add the mayonnaise, dill, parsley, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper. Toss until well mixed.
  4. Cover the bowl and put the bowl in the refrigerator until ready to serve. 
  5. Spread the softened butter on both flat sides of the hot dog rolls.
  6. Heat a large skillet or pan with medium heat. Put the rolls with the flat buttered side down into the pan. Toast for 1-3 min. until golden-brown, for each side.
  7. When nicely toasted, remove the lobster meat from the refrigerator and load them into the bun.

 

Connecticut Lobster Rolls

Connecticut Lobster Roll

Traditionally made with warm lobster meat dressed with butter, which may or may not be on top of a fresh lettuce, stuffed into a warm, toasted center-cut New England style bun (often with white crustless-sides)

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 lb. steamed lobster meat, chopped
  • 2 New England Style hot dog buns
  • 4 Tbsp butter, divided
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 1 Tbsp chopped chives (Optional)
  • 2 tsp lemon juice (Optional)

Directions:

  1. In a large pan, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. when melted, toast the hot dog buns on both sides for 1 to 3 minutes, or until golden brown. Set aside.
  2. In the same pan, melt the remaining 3 table spoon of butter on low heat. Add the lobster meat. Toss gently to coat the meat evenly with the butter.
  3. Add salt and pepper, to taste. Add the chives or lemon juice, if desired. 
  4. Divide the lobster evenly into the warmed rolls. Serve immediately, while still warm!
